Satinder Pal Singh, lovingly called as Pal from his childhood was born on 12th of October, 1947 in the village. He is very intelligent, active and smart with pleasant disposition and ever smiling face. He was very social and enjoyed good company with his brothers and sisters. He topped in the Punjab State in eighth standard and after passing Higher Secondary Examination was selected for the NDA in 1963. In his school leaving certificate the Headmaster recorded, “He performed extremely well in studies as well as sports. He was a very good athlete and an outstanding kabaddi player. He was Captain of the school football team. Possessed good Leadership qualities and took keen interest in social work. In fact, he was the rare combination of a very good student and a very good sportsman.”
He excelled in the NDA as an all rounder. During the first successful mountaineering expedition of the NDA in June 1966, he created history by becoming the first cadet to reach the summit along with Ang Kami the youngest Everest hero of the world at that time. He got Commission in the Indian Navy in 1968. He participated in Indo-Pak war during 1971. Pal was selected to serve as the Assistant Naval Adviser to the Indian High Commissioner in London during the period 1978-81. He held several coveted posts in the Navy and commanded frontline warships of the Western Fleet.
He was selected to undergo most prestigious course at the National Defence College, New Delhi, where military officers of the rank of Brigadier and equivalent from 20 different countries and senior civil servants participate. He was decorated by the President of India with Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for distinguished service. He sought premature retirement in 1998 for personal reasons, bringing to an end a most inspiring and brilliant innings of 30 years in the Indian Navy.
Bhai Pal founded the ‘Stress Management Research Institute’ (SMRI) after premature retirement and became a pioneer in conducting research based systematic training in Stress Management. As the President of SMRI, he became an International Trainer and conducted more than 2000 workshops in India and abroad. His workshops have been patronized globally by frontline multinational companies, all the three top Industrial bodies of India; CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM, the All India Management Association (AIMA) and premier institutions of India like the LBSNAA Mussoorie for training of IAS officers, NPA Hyderabad for training of IPS officers and top business schools like ISB Hyderabad and IIM Ahmedabad. He has also dedicated considerable effort towards a movement started by him for “Building People for a Better India; Better World” in terms of a contact program to serve and positively influence the youth. He is the Chief Mentor of TPC India, a global organization with headquarters in the UK and involved in leadership coaching worldwide. He is on the governing bodies of some educational institutions and has authored several articles on spiritual dimensions of human life. He has participated in various seminars at national and international levels and made a mark in original thinking. He has been honored with the ‘Rising Personalities of India’ award by the International Penguin Publishing House for his outstanding services, achievements and contributions to the society. He has been recognized amongst the dynamic men and women who are front runners in various spheres of human endeavor and have scaled heights against odds to achieve excellence.
Satinder is married to Jolly of Sekhon gotra. The couple has been blessed with two sons. Both graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. The elder son, Karan Manveer Singh did his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and after working in the corporate world has started his own work in the field of Rainwater Harvesting. The younger son Jaiveer Singh did his MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur and is settled in London. Both are brilliant all-rounder and doing very well in life.
