Preface
The Main Author
The main initiator of this book was Chaudhary Hardwari Lal son of Dada Roop Chand who started writing a book on “The Saga of a Farmer’s Family” after his retirement when he was 73 years old. The material was almost complete for publication, but because of his untimely demise, it remained unpublished and later on this unfinished task changed many hands till date, which has now been completed by his youngest son, Surender Kumar Dalal.
The father of the Presenter was brought up in rural surroundings with rural culture full of ancestral teachings, devotion to duties & responsibilities towards elders, family respect, humanity and above all the nation. He passed his early primary education in 1923 from adjoining village Noona Majra and H.S.L.C (Matric) Examination in First Division from Government High School, Bahadurgarh in 1929. After schooling, he got admission in a prestigious Punjab Agriculture College, Lyallpur (now in Pakistan) from where he completed graduation in Agriculture in 1933 and secured 5th position in the University and was awarded ‘Sir Sultan Ahmadi Gold Medal’. He joined service immediately after completing studies as Agriculture Assistant in the Department of Agriculture, Punjab and later on during 1947 he was promoted as Deputy Director of Agriculture in P.A.S Class-I.
After partition, the then Chief Minister of Punjab, Sardar Partap Singh Kairon assigned the father of the Presenter a special task of a sinking ship, which was running in losses ‘The Govt. Livestock Farm’ in Hissar for improving the functioning and financial position of this farm. This target was achieved by him within a short span of time and the farm started running into profit and was developed as a unique institution in Punjab State. Gradually, with sincere efforts and hard work a man with agriculture background and with simple graduation level academic qualification became the Director General of this farm, which was basically meant for Veterinary cadre services instead of Agriculture. He retired as Chief Superintendent of the farm in 1969 after a meritorious service of 36 years.
After retirement, he settled down at Hissar and devoted his time in social work to help needy people, reading religious books and other related works. He left for his heavenly abode on 27th July, 1984 after completing about 73 years of age. Since his stay at Hissar was for more than 3 decades and during his service career served the people of not only Hissar but even far flung areas, his funeral was attended by a huge gathering. A number of condolence messages and personal visits including of Ch. Bhajan Lal, the then Chief Minister, Haryana (who always respected him as his elder) were witnessed to convey respect to the departed soul. He commented that he has ‘lost his personal guide, philosopher and friend’.

The Presenter
I, Surender Kumar Dalal his youngest son have taken up the unfinished task of my father to complete his book in form of e-book and uploaded on ‘website portal’ instead in physical form considering being an era of digital transformation. Therefore, I am neither ‘Author’ nor ‘Writer’ but simply a ‘Presenter’ who has tried to update the family information, however, keeping the information of the senior generation and historical facts of the family same, as described by my father in his script. So in the fore-going details, I shall use the word ‘Presenter’ for myself.
In fact, why I thought to complete this task before I say goodbye like my father is to provide some useful information to the upcoming younger generation to know about some historical facts about their native place and realise a feeling about their forefathers, what was their name & fame, from where they came and struggled etc. That’s it, and nothing beyond that. Someone has very rightly said as under:
“A family, without proper record of its history, soon forgets its past and gradually degenerates”
Although a very long time has passed and the family tree has grown many folds along with past – present scenario, yet effort has been made to translate the views, ideas & facts thought of by my father about his elders and next generation in original framework. As far as possible, current status of my generation and next two-three generations (where ever possible) have been obtained from Dalal Parivar of ‘Dada Roop Chand’ family members and included in the family tree.
